JOB TITLE:  Food Technologist, Savory Applications

LOCATION:  Bridgewater, NJ

REPORTS TO:  Senior Business Scientist, Savory Applications


The Food Technologist will support projects and other initiatives within the Global Savory Applications team, including conducting experiments in the lab or pilot plant to test the performance of new and novel ingredients in savory applications, evaluating new process or testing capabilities to improve quality of results, and collaborating with Technical Service to provide direct or indirect customer support.


 As a Food Technologist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Testing  the performance of new ingredients in savory applications and communicating results to the Go-To-Marketing team to support the launch and marketing of new and existing products.
  • Developing new food formulations as necessary to demonstrate performance of our ingredients in order to best meet project or customer requirements.
  • Delivering high quality presentations to demonstrate and communicate results to stakeholders and potentially external customers.
  • Keeping accurate records to support internal clients and external customers. Keeping appropriate records to support IP strategy.
  • Supporting new ingredient and product development initiatives for savory applications.
  • Designing and conducting experiments in the laboratory and pilot plant.
  • Applying routine analytical methods to characterize the attributes of formulated food products, and coordinating more extensive testing with Sensory and Systems Design & Measurement teams when required.
  • Providing status updates, work packages with milestones, and outcomes to team.
  • Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.  Working with global teams to understand project and market needs, define shared work plans, and gain support and input throughout project timelines.
  • Understanding business context of assignments and working independently to meet objectives
  • Developing industry relationships and networking within professional organizations like Association for Dressings & Sauces (ADS) and IFT.

 Qualified candidates will have:

  • BS in Food Science or equivalent technical field with relevant work experience in food formulation and testing
  • Proven ability to apply food science and food engineering principles to solve problems
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with cross-functional teams and work collaboratively with peers and others
  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills (making high quality presentations and writing technical reports)
  • Familiarity with experimental design, statistical data analysis, and interpretation of results is highly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Some travel to visit customers or attend conferences may be required
