Primary Function

Responsible for US/Canadian master production scheduling & the management of finished goods, work in process, excess & obsolete inventory. This position is a key driver in ensuring adequate inventory is available to fulfill customer demand, while minimizing inventory costs.  The role is tasked with maintaining strong partnerships with manufacturing operations, plant schedulers & replenishment planners to manage stock levels – as well as, using data insights to establish critical system parameters (ABC classification, Target & Safety Stock settings). 

Key Deliverables             


  • From the S&OP Demand Plan, create the master production schedule that will support inventory planning requirements & replenishment plans
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners to ensure inventory is managed according to constraints and targets that are aligned with the business strategy
  • Establish critical inventory parameters (such as ABC classification, Target & Safety Stock settings) taking into account constrains and input, such as lead time and order cycle time
  • Review and adjust master production schedule to accommodate near-term customer orders that differ from the S&OP Demand Plan
  • Provide production rate compliance feedback to Capacity Planning
  • Monitor and track inventory levels and reconcile inventory variances using all available resources to identify root causes and supply possible solutions

 Agility and Innovation  

  • Use creative solutions to maximize capacity within the short to midterm supply planning horizon (0-6 months)
  • Review and analyze asset capacity to determine whether alternative sourcing is required
  • Identify possible future capacity constraints and bottlenecks
  • Measures supply plan adherence performance through analysis reports and recommends changes to improve and optimize throughput
  • Leverage new product introduction plans from new product innovation teams into the master production schedule
  • Improve and upgrade inventory systems and reporting
  • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste or optimize customer service
  • Develop, monitor and communicate reports on inventory to business unit and supply chain organizations, while driving continuous improvement
  • Measure, analyze and report key process metrics, and monitor adherence to key performance indicators (KPIs) that support Customer Experience goals

 Relationships and People            

  • Communicates the Master Production Schedule to supply chain stakeholders, the plant and across partner supply networks
  • Develop and maintain inventory planning assumptions in conjunction with purchasing, planning, manufacturing and commercial teams – including safety stocks, lead times, order quantities, campaign or production strategy, batch yields, and cycle times
  • Report on back orders, short stock, excess items and slow-moving inventory to the parties concerned
  • Communicate regarding lead-time changes and the availability of product

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:    

  • Bachelors in supply chain management, operations, mathematics, engineering
  • Work experience in a team based environment within manufacturing or supply chain is desirable
  • Supply chain/operations certification a plus – such as APICS
  • Experience with SAP and its related supply chain applications
  • Strong communications skills (oral and written)
  • Proficiency using PC-based applications (such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and/or Access)
  • Strong technical skills around data management
  • Well-organized and a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong mathematical/statistical abilities
  • Hands-on experience with modeling, analysis and simulation tools
  • Proven problem solving experience involving a variety of functional department and management levels
  • Hands-on experience with inventory planning, while working with multiple partners to resolve exceptions and negotiate best alternatives
