LOCATION: Bridgewater, NJ

REPORTS TO:  Director, Emerging Business


Ingredion is hiring an Inside Sales Team Lead, Emerging Business to manage a team of 3 Inside Sales Specialists who are the first link in the sales process in North America and focused on nurturing and developing business with Emerging Food and Beverage companies in the market place. The Team Lead will work directly with customers from lead inception to close of the sale and will also develop key processes and metrics for the team, directing a systematic manner on how we engage with Emerging Businesses in the marketplace.  The Team Lead will ensure the team effectively drives leads through the sales funnel, working cross functionally with Sales, Sales development, Customer Solutions & Product Innovation (CSPI) and Marketing to ensure quick and accurate follow-up to customer inquiries and leads and ultimately closes on sales opportunities.  The Team Lead will also manage customers directly and be responsible for driving sales via Ingredion’s new e-commerce channel. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Progress the Emerging Business team as a go to resource internally and externally with customers. Create processes and best practice for further customer engagement/communication. Capture trends and establish metrics. Create standard/customizable e-mail templates to create value and recommend proper customer solutions. Draft and send e-mail correspondence used for customer follow-up on interest in Ingredion products.

  • Develop flexible, entrepreneurial and proactive customer-centric approach with customers. Develop customer relationships to be seen as a “go-to” resource for customers. Troubleshoot and solve technical issues, customer issues and cover projects when necessary.

  • Become functional expert on key product lines in the product portfolio across both Ingredient Solutions & Sweetener Solutions divisions. Provide customers with product recommendations (in conjunction with CSPI) that allow utilization of Ingredion products.

  • Communicate directly with customers from lead inception to close of sale. Ensure leads are tied to appropriate campaigns and opportunities are created in the “prequalify” stage and assigned as appropriate. Provide pricing to customers based on request. Close sales with customers and transition accounts to outside sales representatives, distributors or manage via the e-commerce channel.

  • Certify accuracy of data and opportunity size of all leads in Manage timing of opportunities and verify that close dates are kept up to date.

  • Maintain strong relationships with our distributor partners so that they fully understand the value of the Emerging Business team. Work with distributor partners for smaller scale business opportunities/projects.

  • Manage day-to-day interactions between TIC Gum Guru team and Emerging Business team.

  • Implement and be the key point person for live chat and develop team processes for how team will manage this new tool.

  • Manage roll-out of a newly established e-commerce model of engagement for select products for purchase by Emerging Business customers. Ensure team is fully trained and is driving sales via this new channel.
  • Utilize to arrange samples to be shipped to customers.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relations internally with Sales, Marketing, Legal, Quality, and Customer Solutions and Product Innovation.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • 4 year college degree or equivalent with experience in a sales capacity. Food Science or Business degree with an interest in taking on a role in Sales and managing a team is a plus.
  • Preferred experience with developing people and implementing processes & metrics.
  • Ability to handle and manage both long-term projects and short-term problem solving needs. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Flawless follow-up skills to ensure that projects with customer move to close. Experience escalating customer projects to management when necessary.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to thrive in detail-oriented work.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relations in a cross functional environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate strategy into tangible business plans and actions and work with limited direct day-to-day management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with windows based software programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Proficiency in MS Outlook or willingness to learn.
