Job Title: Project Lead, Industrial Applications Research

Position Location: Bedford Park, IL or Bridgewater, NJ

Reports To: Sr. Manager, Customer Solutions and Product Innovation


Ingredion is hiring a Project Lead, Industrial Applications Research who will be responsible for product ideation, prototype development and existing product line modification to expand our product solutions portfolio and enhance our market differentiation. The Project Lead will support technology development by leading and serving on cross functional product development teams as well as identifying external technology and partnerships that would elevate portfolio value

As Project Lead, Industrial Applications Research your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing new products, chemistries and solutions to meet both customer and market needs.

  • Using deep understanding of science to develop new chemistries to deliver functional performance.
  • Proactively proposing and researching new product ideas, reviewing prior art, and identifying solutions to achieve performance.
  • Planning and carrying out laboratory experiments, organizing appropriate data and maintaining findings in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Handling daily planning and work execution to complete projects and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Supporting team projects through assisting with results analysis and offering suggestions to advance team learnings.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong working knowledge of Ingredion’s products and customers.
  • Collaborating directly with customers via phone, face-to-face meetings, presentation, and at trade shows to develop new product introductions.
  • Collaborating closely with our Sales, Applications, and Technical Services teams to gain customer and market insights on new technologies of interest to deliver new business.
  • Performing assignments involving complex laboratory procedures with minimal supervision. Independently carry out assignments, constantly reviewing data for accuracy, interpreting, and communicating results effectively to project teams.
  • Proactively seeking and applying latest analytical/laboratory technologies to improve the efficiency of current activities. Demonstrating and maintaining a positive attitude and willingness to learn new scientific concepts and latest technologies.
  • Utilizing full range of processing and technical tools to solve complex customer problems.
  • Collaborating with peers, managers, and internal /external customers; understanding how and with whom to collaborate with. Building strong relationship with our Global Innovation Group.
  • Building sustainable external relationships that deliver value for the business. 

The Project Lead, Industrial Applications Research position is well suited for you if you:

Qualified Candidates will have:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, or similar science with 10 years’ experience in conceptual Product Development required. MS Degree preferred.
  • Industrial background a plus especially focused on Paper, Corrugating, or Coatings.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience is a requirement. Demonstrated experience of creative, hands-on concept development formulation using laboratory and/or pilot plant equipment.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and carry out multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to a very dynamic work environment.
  • Strong project management skills and experience to execute work and deliver projects on time. Understands how project plans and priorities are set and resourced.
  • Strong collaboration skills with ability to leverage internal and external networks.
  • Familiarity with experimental design, statistical data analysis and results interpretation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal communication, collaboration, and technical skills. Strong listening skills and open to others’ ideas.
  • Ability to analyze results and prepare findings in technical summary reports. Construct moderately complex data tables and graphs.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and statistical data analysis.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving capabilities.
